    Een nokkenaspositiesensor is een elektronisch onderdeel dat de positie en rotatiesnelheid van de nokkenas meet. De sensor stuurt nauwkeurige timinginformatie naar de motorregeleenheid (ECU), die deze gegevens gebruikt om de brandstofinjectie, ontstekingstiming en variabele kleptiming te regelen. Dit zorgt voor optimale motorprestaties, efficiëntie en emissiebeheersing.

    Belangrijke specificaties zijn onder andere het sensortype (Hall-effect of inductief), het connectortype, het aantal pinnen, de signaaluitvoer en de montageconfiguratie. De sensor moet compatibel zijn met de ECU van het voertuig en betrouwbaar functioneren onder motoromstandigheden, waaronder temperaturen die doorgaans variëren van -40 °C tot +150 °C, evenals trillingen en blootstelling aan olie.

    Vervanging is noodzakelijk wanneer de sensor defect raakt of onjuiste signalen geeft. Symptomen kunnen zijn: haperingen in de motor, moeilijk starten, verminderde prestaties, een hoger brandstofverbruik of waarschuwingslampjes zoals het motorstoringslampje.
