    Een sensor die de slijtage van de remblokken meet, waarschuwt de bestuurder wanneer de remblokken tot een vooraf bepaalde limiet zijn afgesleten, meestal door een waarschuwingslampje op het dashboard te laten branden.

    De sensor is in of nabij het remblok geïnstalleerd en maakt deel uit van een elektrisch circuit. Naarmate het remblok slijt, onderbreekt de sensor het circuit of maakt contact met de remschijf, waarna een signaal naar het boordcomputersysteem van het voertuig wordt gestuurd om de slijtage aan te geven.

    Belangrijke specificaties zijn onder andere het type connector, de kabellengte, het ontwerp van de sensor en de compatibiliteit met het elektronische systeem van het voertuig. De sensor moet voldoen aan de eisen van de originele uitrusting om een nauwkeurige werking en correcte waarschuwingssignalen te garanderen.
